Do you want to educate your children about wastefulness and reuse? We have a great idea for you!
This idea comes from Louise P., a mother of two little boys who organizes a yearly “do-it-yourself” activity for the neighborhood children.
This year, Louise decided to ask the children to make small gift wrappings from recovered materials they could find at home and from other objects found in nature or in the pantry.
She herself had brought several objects and materials to inspire them:
- newsprint
- rolls of paper towels and toilet paper
- cinnamon sticks
- pieces of ribbon
- shredded paper
- pieces of fabric and wool
- etc.
Other parents joined in to help the youngest children. The event ended up being a children’s party where everyone left with some gift wrappings and a good dose of pride!

Take Louise as an example! Organize your own early learning activity in your neighbourhood! The Internet is full of ideas for do-it-yourself items that can be made from materials and objects that can be recovered!
